The first time I ever heard this song, I was in desperate need of the reminder found in this chorus –
I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It’s true, I will rescue you
Music, Books, Politics, and more!

This one is so powerful for me. I have such precious memories of my church family from the small country congregation where I spent my high school years. And now I find myself once again in a church family that feels like home.
This song was recorded by Billy Joel (one of my favorite recording artists ever) and the amazing Ray Charles. Yes, two of the greatest sing AND play on this song. It’s a love song, really. Yes. A love song to an instrument. And I absolutely relate.
Late at night
When it’s dark and cold
I reach out
For someone to hold
When I’m blue
When I’m lonely
She comes through
She’s the only one who can
My baby grand
Is all I need
Love, love, LOVE this song!!!
Fear, you don’t own me
There ain’t no room in this story
And I ain’t got time for you
Telling me what I’m not
Like you know me well guess what?
I know who I am
I know I’m strong
And I am free
Got my own identity
So fear, you will never be welcome here
Here’s a blast from the past! Steven Curtis Chapman used a historical event to remind us that sometimes we have to remove the option to quit!
Sometimes the smallest word can have a huge impact. The first time I heard Ruelle’s “I Get to Love You” I was struck by the use of the words “I Get To”. Not “I’m Obligated . . . “o or “I Guess I . . . ” but “I GET to love you.” It’s a privilege. Something I’m lucky enough to get to do. Needless to say, I think of my husband and smile every time I hear this song. Mindset is everything.
I get to love you
It’s the best thing that I’ll ever do
I get to love you
It’s a promise I’m making to you
Whatever may come your heart I will choose
Forever I’m yours, forever I do
I get to love you
I love a good “girl power” song. From the fun and upbeat to the thought-provoking, I love them all!
Idina Menzel’s “I Stand” was one I fell in love with IMMEDIATELY. The chorus is especially powerful –
This seemed like a fitting song to share on New Year’s Day – LITERALLY Day One of 2020!! Since Tuesday is all about “Words and Music” – I LOVE the phrase that says “Every single day Your grace reminds me that my best days are not behind me.” Talk about hope!
