Words and Music – Baby Grand

This song was recorded by Billy Joel (one of my favorite recording artists ever) and the amazing Ray Charles.  Yes, two of the greatest sing AND play on this song.  It’s a love song, really.  Yes.  A love song to an instrument.  And I absolutely relate.

Late at night
When it’s dark and cold
I reach out
For someone to hold
When I’m blue
When I’m lonely
She comes through
She’s the only one who can
My baby grand
Is all I need

Words and Music – Church (Take me Back)

Feels good to be a part of a church family that feels like home!

Take me back
To the place that feels like home
To the people I can depend on
To the faith that’s in my bones
Take me back
To a preacher and a verse
Where they’ve seen me at my worst
To the love I had at first
Oh, I want to go to church

Words and Music – I Get to Love You

Sometimes the smallest word can have a huge impact.  The first time I heard Ruelle’s “I Get to Love You” I was struck by the use of the words “I Get To”.  Not “I’m Obligated . . . “o or “I Guess I . . . ”  but “I GET to love you.”  It’s a privilege.  Something I’m lucky enough to get to do.  Needless to say, I think of my husband and smile every time I hear this song.  Mindset is everything.

I get to love you
It’s the best thing that I’ll ever do
I get to love you
It’s a promise I’m making to you
Whatever may come your heart I will choose
Forever I’m yours, forever I do
I get to love you

Words and Music – Breakup Song

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it.  If it was possible to wear out a digital track, I would have done so long ago!

Fear, you don’t own me
There ain’t no room in this story
And I ain’t got time for you
Telling me what I’m not
Like you know me well guess what?
I know who I am
I know I’m strong
And I am free
Got my own identity
So fear, you will never be welcome here

Words and Music – All In

This song has been a favorite as I think about goals and plans for the New Year.  2020 will be my first FULL year with a mental health diagnosis AND a plan of action in place to get healthier in that regard.  So this song has kind of been a bit of a theme for me lately.  The process of getting healthier won’t be easy, but I’m definitely going all in!

So, I step to the edge and I take a deep breath
We’re all dying to live but we’re all scared to death
And this is the part where my head tells my heart
You should turn back around but there’s no turning back now
I’m going all in
Headfirst into the deep end
I hear You calling
And this time the fear won’t win
I’m going, I’m going all in

Music and Me – Light a Candle

Light a candle
For the old man who sits staring
Out a frosty windowpane

Light a candle
For the woman who is lonely
And every Christmas is the same

For the children who need
More than presents can bring

Light a candle
Light the dark
Light the world
Light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you

Light a candle
For the homeless and the hungry
A little shelter from the cold

Light a candle
For the broken and forgotten
May the season warm their souls

Can we open our hearts
To shine through the dark

Light a candle
Light the dark
Light the world
Light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you

And in this special time of year
May peace on earth surround us here
And teach us there’s a better way to live
And with every (every) flame that burns
We must somehow learn
That love’s the greatest gift
That we could ever give…..

Light a candle
Light the dark
(light the world)
Light the world
(light a heart or two)
Light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you (I will)
Light a candle (oh, I will)
Light the dark ( because everybody needs a light)
Light the world
Light a heart or two (ohhh)
Light a candle for me (you know I will)
I’ll light a candle for you(you can light a candle)
Light candle for me
I’ll light a candle for you
(i will)
Light a
Light a candle for me
Oh, I’ll light a candle for you
